BUBBLE ZONES

With major cities and towns in Ontario like Vaughan, Oakville, Brampton and most recently Toronto finding it prudent, responsible and reasonable to adopt Bubble Zones for their citizens we now call on policy makers in the Province of Ontario to explore making these protections available for all communities province-wide.

Dear Honourable MP, I am writing to you as a concerned citizen and member of a local faith-based community. I’m reaching out to urge you to demonstrate leadership by supporting the creation and implementation of Bubble Zone legislation to protect houses of worship and religious schools from targeted, hostile protests. These types of demonstrations are not general expressions of dissent. They are highly strategic acts of intimidation aimed at specific, identifiable communities in their most vulnerable spaces—spaces meant to be sanctuaries of peace, reflection, and service. To stand silently by while these acts occur is to risk normalizing hate and harassment under the guise of free speech. This is not only a moral and constitutional issue—it’s also a fiscal one. Municipalities are already straining under the escalating costs of law enforcement, peacekeeping, and emergency response needed to safeguard these spaces during recurring protests. According to recent reports, the City of Toronto alone spent nearly $20 million last year to respond to protests related to international conflicts that were directed at local communities and institutions. (CityNews, April 2025) We cannot allow the cost of maintaining public safety to be borne indefinitely by cities, congregations, and neighbours. This is unsustainable and unjust. I am asking you to: - Publicly support the implementation of Bubble Zone protections for faith-based spaces - Work proactively with fellow municipal, provincial, and federal representatives to advance this legislation - Engage with community leaders and constituents who are calling for action This is a moment for moral clarity and courageous leadership. By supporting Bubble Zones, you affirm your commitment to the safety, dignity, and peaceful coexistence of all communities. Thank you for your attention to this urgent matter. I look forward to seeing your leadership on this issue.
